Mock draft watch: dueling CBS mocks offer Browns very different help

It’s not as easy to get excited about the 2019 NFL Draft as it has been the last few years for Cleveland Browns fans. The team doesn’t have a selection until No. 17 overall after holding the No. 1 pick in each of the last two seasons.

That doesn’t mean the draft is not important. And the evaluation process and slotting projections are well underway. The draft analysts at CBS Sports, Chris Trapasso and Ryan Wilson, published dueling mock drafts this week. And they diverged sharply with their projections for the Browns at the No. 17 spot.

Trapasso addresses the offensive tackle issue with Greg Little from Ole Miss. No, not the former Browns flameout wide receiver. This Little is a 6-6, 335-pound behemoth with smooth feet and balance at left tackle. He’s not unlike the Greg Robinson who finished the 2018 season strongly for the Browns. Robinson is a free agent. If he leaves, left tackle shoots to the top of any Browns draft need list.

Wilson opts for one of the lightest top-flight players, 5-11, 175-pound Washington cornerback Byron Murphy. What Murphy lacks in size he makes up for in football IQ, speed, playmaking panache and hitting. He and Denzel Ward would give the Browns a pair of uber-talented young corners, though the Browns do not necessarily need another premium pick in the secondary.
