Report: Browns will hire Freddie Kitchens as head coach

The search is over, and so is the drama. Freddie Kitchens is the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

Kitchens was selected over six other candidates who interviewed with Browns GM John Dorsey and the search committee. That list of interviewees also included interim head coach Gregg Williams. Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski was granted a second interview for the position, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Kitchens, 44, finished the season serving under Williams as the team’s offensive coordinator. Prior to that, he worked with Baker Mayfield as the QB coach, a role he also held with the Cardinals.

Mayfield and Kitchens clearly clicked, and the offense spiked up in both efficiency and excitement with the duo running the show. Kitchens showed creativity and confidence in the players to do more than what predecessor Todd Haley and head coach Hue Jackson ever did.
